222 WALDO FLATS

To replace the unsalvageable Ice House, Botwin developed a mixed-use building, with commercial on the first floor and four floors of residential above. The apartments target a multi-generational audience. Young and old tend to live segregated from each other. 222 Waldo Flats proposes that dignified closeness, does in fact proliferate mutual understanding. Botwin commissioned artist Sonié Joi Thompson Ruffin who created a wall hung quilt referencing care, family, and the history of the medium itself.
